CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2006--The FCB office in Johannesburg, South Africa was awarded the highest Grand Prix honor in the Press Category at the 53rd annual Cannes International Advertising Festival. FCB is a part of The Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE: IPG). The Lion was given to Executive Creative Director Brett Morris, and the creative team of Lance Vining and Charles Foley, at an evening ceremony in the Grand Palais today.
The print advertisement titled "Periscope" for Lego Construction Blocks is part of a campaign that ran in South Africa at the end of 2005. FCB Johannesburg has only recently started working with Lego and has received numerous accolades and awards prior to receiving the Grand Prix. FCB Johannesburg also won a Bronze Radio Lion for a Lego spot called "Fantasy".
Jonathan Harries, Worldwide Chief Creative Officer of the newly formed Draft FCB Group, said of the Grand Prix, "The great part about this award is that it's the first for FCB South Africa and the first for what we believe will be the standard for Draft FCB."
FCB Johannesburg Executive Creative Director Brett Morris added, "What I love about this ad is that it conveys imagination. There was a temptation to do something complex, but this ad does the opposite. 'Periscope' shows that if just two Lego pieces can open up an entire world, imagine what a whole set can do. Understated and simple."
On June 1, 2006 the Interpublic Group announced its intent to merge its Draft and FCB units to create a global integrated marketing organization with a single management team and P&L. Draft FCB Group, the new entity that will emerge, represents a communications model designed to address the needs of clients in today's dynamic, consumer-driven marketing environment. Draft and Foote Cone & Belding have just begun a 90-day integration process, which will end with an announcement of the new agency's organizational and management structure. Foote Cone & Belding Worldwide is one of the largest agency brands in the U.S. and the world; it has more than 190 offices servicing clients in 110 countries.
