September 24, 2004 at 9:33 AM EDT

NEW YORK, Sep 24, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) announced today that Ellen Johnson has been named Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Interpublic Group, effective immediately. Ms. Johnson, 39, joined Interpublic in early 2000 as Assistant Treasurer, International, and has held a variety of senior finance positions at the corporation over the past four years, primarily in the Treasury department. In May of this year, she was named Chief Financial Officer of Interpublic's The Partnership division. Johnson replaces Steven Berns, who recently left the company. In her new role, she will be charged with managing liquidity for the company, structuring the company's credit facilities, as well as overseeing its relationships with banks and rating agencies. Johnson will report to Robert Thompson, the company's Chief Financial Officer.

According to David Bell, CEO and President of Interpublic, "Strengthening the company's financial condition has been a top priority during the first stage of our turnaround. As part of the tremendous treasury department we have had in place for a number of years, Ellen played a major role in achieving this important goal. She was a key player on the team that led our financing and re-financing activities in 2003. In her new role as Treasurer, she will bring smarts, credibility and continuity to a vital finance function. We're very pleased to have her back in the corporate group."

Ms. Johnson joined Interpublic in February 2000, with responsibility for the treasury and financing functions for all of Interpublic's international subsidiaries. Prior to joining Interpublic, she worked for 10 years at Revlon in various corporate finance roles, ultimately as Assistant Treasurer, International. In that capacity, she had responsibility for all treasury functions in Europe. She also played a lead role in negotiating Revlon's credit facilities and in the financing and re-financing activities that helped re-capitalize the company in the late 1990's.

Preceding her work at Revlon, Johnson was a Senior Accountant at Coopers & Lybrand, overseeing clients' financial statements and audit reports. She is a CPA who holds an MBA in Finance from New York University's Stern School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Albany.
