NEW YORK, Jun 14, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Interpublic (NYSE: IPG) is the lead sponsor of the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council's Business Opportunity Expo 2010. The Council's expo is considered New York City's top conference on outsourcing to minority businesses. This year, the expo's corporate co-chair is Eliseo Rojas, Director, Global Sourcing and Procurement at Interpublic Group.

This 2010 expo, which will take place on Tuesday, June 15th at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City, is titled "Innovative Growth for the New Decade," and is a one-day event consisting of workshops, seminars, speakers and large trade fairs. Attendees include top minority entrepreneurs and supplier diversity executives from major Fortune 500 companies, institutions and government agencies.

"We are pleased to be the lead sponsor of this event and will continue working with partners who reflect the diversity of the world around us by providing opportunities for qualified women-, minority- and locally-owned businesses," commented Frank Mergenthaler, Chief Financial Officer at Interpublic. "At Interpublic, supplier diversity is a strategic corporate initiative and a core element of our overall commitment to diversity. An important part of that commitment is putting together a supplier diversity program that allows us to work closely with firms that reflect the consumers we must reach on behalf of our clients."

Interpublic was the first holding company in our industry to have a full-time Supplier Diversity Director and to attain memberships in national organizations dedicated to certification and promotion of business opportunities for women-, minority- and locally-owned businesses. Since launching its supplier diversity program in 2004, IPG has increased its spending with minority suppliers by 81%. IPG currently purchases products and services from over 600 minority-owned businesses.

IPG's supplier diversity team works closely with the company's business units to encourage participation in regional and national supplier diversity trade fairs; share information about qualified diverse suppliers that other IPG agencies are using and; provide agencies with the tools and resources required to help them meet or exceed their clients' supplier diversity expectations.
