Interpublic Taps Robert Thompson for Senior Finance Post
NEW YORK, NY (October 21, 2003) – The Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE: IPG) announced that Bob Thompson has joined the firm as Senior Vice President of Finance. In this position, Mr. Thompson will oversee key financial functions including the tax department, the corporate controller's group and the budgeting group, as well as Information Technology. He will also be responsible for the company's important shared services initiatives. According to Interpublic COO/CFO Chris Coughlin, “I'm very excited to have Bob join our team. He's a top-notch talent with broad experience. He was a key member of the corporate finance group that managed the turnaround at Pharmacia. I know he will help Interpublic further improve our financial systems and achieve greater financial reliability and accountability.”
Thompson has held senior finance positions at a number of leading multinational companies in a range of industries. Most recently, from 1997 to 2003, he served as Senior Vice President of Pharmacia Corporation. In this role, Thompson oversaw corporate accounting, financial planning and analysis and financial shared services for the $14 billion pharmaceutical multinational. While at Whirlpool Corporation, from 1991-1997, Thompson served as Corporate Controller for the $8.8 billion appliance and financial services corporation. He also spent over 10 years at PepsiCo, Inc. in various international finance roles. Thompson is a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.
