Interpublic Updates Status of SEC Inquiry

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2003--The Interpublic Group of Companies, Inc., (NYSE: IPG) has been advised by the Securities and Exchange Commission that the agency has issued a formal order in connection with its investigation of the company's previously announced restatement of earnings for the periods from 1996 through June 2002.

The matter has been the subject of an informal SEC inquiry.

Interpublic indicated that it has been fully cooperating with the agency and will continue to do so in order to bring the inquiry to a conclusion as promptly as possible.
